The GUI and CLI packages in this bundle both still work beautifully for me and I love having both options, so I might stick with this instead of
proton-vpn-gtk-app(which doesn't seem to integrate well with any CLI option I've tried). If there are any known or potential security issues with these "out-of-date" packages, please let us know.calexandru2018 commented on 2024-02-19 16:03 (UTC)
XxTriviumxX this version is no longer being updated, as we've fully migrated to v4, but currently it's not officially supported on arch mainly because given the complexity of the new app it's quite hard to support as many distros as we did before, so for now we officially only support Debian/Ubuntu and Fedora, with some limited support on their derivatives. There is though a community version of the new app if you feel like giving it a try: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/proton-vpn-gtk-app

is this version of protonvpn still safe to use? Is it outdated?

Well this is a bit misleading then as the package description says it is the official ProtonVPN metapackage, maintained by the ProtonVPN team. If this is just a wrapper for the official one it should say it is an unofficial metapackage that wraps the official packages that are maintained by the ProtonVPN team. There is an important distinction here that is not at all clear. The Proton team packages must be distinct then from the AUR package and its maintainer.

I reached out to the maintainer. Hopefully we can get this updated soon. The current Linux client in AUR is not good.

You must have NetworkManager and the NM-applet installed. I have LXQt desktop; I installed packages networkmanager-qt and network-manager-applet from the Arch repo. I assume networkmanager and network-manager-applet will also be ok.
connman with cmst does not work.
nm-tray (Qt-based) does not work.
I did clear the AUR cache beforehand, may not be necessary.

this is broken please fix. im getting so many error i can't describe them all. does anyone test the client before its released? PLEASE FIX THIS.
