Since 9.4 catalyst is no longer compatible with my old Radeon card. All new releases will be UNTESTED. If someone with newer Ati card wants to adopt this pkg - post here and I will orphan pkg :)
Comment by: mykey on Mon, 13 Apr 2009 07:04:17 +0000
thanks for your fast reply - I updated to xorg-server 1.6.0 and for the first time the open source drivers seem to work nice on my system :-)
Comment by: blasse on Mon, 13 Apr 2009 06:53:03 +0000
Catalyst-utils are kernel independent, as they always were. Reuploaded pkg with bumped pkgrel - this should refres everyhing on server, so the pkg should work now :)
ps. Catalyst-utils-old will not work withs xderver 1.6 nor this driver will.
Comment by: mykey on Sun, 12 Apr 2009 22:19:43 +0000
I can't get this to build - first catalyst-utils-old are for the stock kernel and second checksum for flush_tlb_page.patch is wrong plus there is something wrong with the 2.6.29.diff - it does not seem to find any of the files to patch - or - am I missing something??
Comment by: blasse on Thu, 02 Apr 2009 19:53:56 +0000
Updated to catalyst 9.3 with catalyst-utils-old as dep. Patch for 2.6.29 added (taken from catalyst-old pkg), but commented out s kernel26-ice is still in 2.6.28 version :)
Comment by: kensai on Mon, 30 Mar 2009 17:52:47 +0000
I think you should put catalyst-utils-old as dependency and catalyst-ice to be upgraded to 9.3. 9.4 was going good, but recent upgrades borke it for me, so I guess is safer to wait for 9.4 official release.
Comment by: flocke on Thu, 26 Mar 2009 17:28:04 +0000
I haven't tested it with the old xorg-server yet so I can't say anything about this.
Comment by: blasse on Thu, 26 Mar 2009 06:34:34 +0000
Is backward-compatible? How stable is 9.4 beta? Will it work with xserver 1.4 and 15 too?
Comment by: flocke on Wed, 25 Mar 2009 21:37:38 +0000
You'r right! 9.2 is currently the official driver!
9.4 is a beta version only released in ubuntu with support for the xorg-server 1.6.0
so unless you want to use [testing]/xorg-server you don't have to upgrade the pkg!
btw. the patch for kernel 2.6.29 support, in case kernel26-ice gets an upgrade:
http://liquorix.net/patches/FGLRX-2.6.29-9.2-5.diff
Comment by: blasse on Wed, 25 Mar 2009 20:31:44 +0000
9.2 is still newest official Catalyst for Linux. Am I missing something?
Comment by: blasse on Tue, 24 Feb 2009 14:54:44 +0000
Patch was correct, checksum in pkgbuild was wrong :) Corrected now.
Comment by: nejsem on Tue, 24 Feb 2009 14:50:02 +0000
is the flush_tlb_page.patch correct?
my 'makepkg -g' gave me
md5sums=('3ef8f805be93eede480f56eaa4e3bee1'
'21b9fd7b73d81769916ae3ea8917e145')

corrected
Comment by: nejsem on Tue, 24 Feb 2009 14:35:43 +0000
there is source http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-driver-installer-9-2-x86.x86_64.run in the PKGBUILD and there should be http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-driver-installer-9.2-x86.x86_64.run instead.
Comment by: blasse on Sat, 21 Feb 2009 20:14:43 +0000
According to arch official catalyst, x86-64 driver is broken. So I cannot guarantee it will work ;)
Comment by: blasse on Tue, 03 Feb 2009 14:37:25 +0000
Removed pkgver specific dependency, as suggested. Pkg should work with older/newer catalyst-utils :)
Comment by: mykey on Tue, 03 Feb 2009 14:27:31 +0000
You should get rid of the catalyst-utils>=9.1 dependency, as the package does not exsist for x86_64 systems - actually the old catalyst-utils (8.12-1) work fine over here ;-)
Comment by: blasse on Sun, 28 Dec 2008 14:36:35 +0000
updated to kernel-ice-2.6.28
Comment by: blasse on Mon, 15 Dec 2008 10:07:12 +0000
The previous mistake may generate an error when upgrading stock kernel. If encountered, please force upgrade of stock kernel (pacman -Sf kernel26) and then reinstall catalyst-ice :)
Comment by: blasse on Sun, 14 Dec 2008 16:48:01 +0000
Should be ok now - I've missed one line in .install file, that was pointing to stock kernel, instead of ice :) No need for reinstalling pkg, but you should remove earlier symlink, it should work fine without it :)
Comment by: mykey on Sun, 14 Dec 2008 15:46:53 +0000
hi blasse

you made my day there :) it works nice - I was waiting for someone knowledgeable enough - thanks a lot - during install there was a small glitch though - I got:
(1/1) upgrading catalyst-ice [############################################] 100%
WARNING: Couldn't open directory /lib/modules/2.6.27-ARCH: No such file or directory
FATAL: Could not open /lib/modules/2.6.27-ARCH/modules.dep.temp for writing: No such file or directory
If you like this package, please install aurvote
and vote for its inclusion/keeping in [community]

creating a symlink 2.6.27-ARCH to 2.6.27-ice fixed it though ;)
Comment by: blasse on Sat, 13 Dec 2008 23:41:42 +0000
Updated to 8.12, working with newest xorg from core. I will try to keep this synchronized with catalyst from testing repo.
Comment by: blasse on Sat, 13 Dec 2008 18:17:57 +0000
I can adopt this package :)

if someone out there is interested in maintaining this package, please forward...

updated. Thanks for the time spent improving kernel26-ice ;-)

bye
Comment by: aboe on Tue, 05 Aug 2008 17:28:24 +0000
found the solution to the problem:

please change one line in the 2.6.26 patch:
replace
"+#if defined(__x86_64__) && defined(__SMP__) && (LINUX_VERSION_CODE >= KERNEL_VERSION(2,6,25))"

with
"+#if defined(__x86_64__) && (LINUX_VERSION_CODE >= KERNEL_VERSION(2,6,25))"

And the fglrx module will load again in the kernel
Comment by: aboe on Tue, 05 Aug 2008 16:56:52 +0000
I've tried your kernel26-ice with this catalyst driver and it can't load the fglrx driver,
because of some symbols missing in the kernel..

I've commented on the kernel26-ice about it,
but if you can guide me through the debugging stuff,
then I can help you out.

My system specs:
asus p5ne-e sli board
3 ghz mem.
intel quad-core Q6600
ati HD4870 GDDR5 512 mb

running archlinux x64 testing

I can NOT try this package 'cos i don't have a catalyst card anymore. Is there someone out there so gentle to try it and let me know if it works? thanks...
Comment by: chibacityblues on Mon, 28 Jul 2008 06:37:59 +0000
Depends on catalyst-utils>=8.7 which isn't available yet AFAICS. The -slax version is available and works:

8.7 is available, could you please update?

New 8.5 version is available ;)

Compiz is not working, have got white screen on login.
Arch kernel 2.6.25 and catalyst working well.

This is not working for me
Comment by: mini on Fri, 16 May 2008 06:07:51 +0000
I have used archlinux kernel 2.6.25 and it works with catalyst 8.4-2 (testing)
Could you please upgrade your PKGBUILD to catalyst 8.4-2?
Comment by: mini on Thu, 01 May 2008 17:37:09 +0000
extra/catalyst-utils 8.3-1 [8.4-1 installed]
but compiz is not working, have got white screen on login.
Comment by: dsagra on Thu, 01 May 2008 09:47:32 +0000
Have you tried to update catalyst-utils to 8.4 version? They are actually in testing, but I hope they will be put in extra soon.
Comment by: mini on Wed, 30 Apr 2008 17:49:10 +0000
This will not work with kernel-2.6.25-ice and compiz.
Comment by: dsagra on Tue, 18 Mar 2008 08:08:02 +0000
I think all module packages are required: the matter is that, as iceman said in kernel26-ice discussion, all modules in extra are built against stock kernel, so if you try to load them with another kernel an error message like 'invalid module format' will be shown...
Comment by: SpookyET on Mon, 17 Mar 2008 22:01:25 +0000
Is this really required. Does the stock catalyst not work?

I tried catalyst + kernel26-fbcondecor. There were no problem. There is a catalyst-fbcondecor.

Now, I'm going to try -ice.
