Hi,

I'm afraid that the line 16 of your PKGBUILD file isn't needed and causes the next error:

* PKGBUILD:
...
15 conflicts=('initscripts')
16 install=initscripts-splash.install
17 source=(ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/other/initscripts/initscripts-${pkgver}-${pkgrel}.tar.gz
...

* ERROR:
==> ERROR: Install scriptlet (initscripts-splash.install) does not exist.

Please, fix it as soon as possible, if it turns out I'm right, or tell me what I've done wrong, otherwise.

Best regards! :-)

This is not needed anymore. No need for asking updates

The md5sums seem to be incorrect and gave me an error. I ran makepkg -g first to redo the md5sums. Then pasted the THREE md5sums in the PKGBUILD over the two that are currently there. Problem solved, it installed fine.

please updated to 2009.07-3, this is very important for filesystem (2009.07-1), udev (141-5) and syslog-ng (3.0.3-2) - will be breakage

following up on my last comment, i've posted a working PKGBUILD of splashy that does not need this separate initscripts package.

There is no need to repackage the entire initscripts. Note how the initscripts are repackaged, totally unchanged. The whole point of allowing sourcable function scripts is so that you don't need to repackage the initscripts.

Add the "splash" and "splash.conf" files to the splashy PKGBUILD - it'll still work perfectly. That way you don't need to update it for every initscripts change.

Wouldn't it be better to simply use the line: replaces=('initscripts')? Rather than having to pacman -Rd and then pacman -U the built package manually.

Did a manually update of this package myself and it works fine with initscripts-2009.03-2 but shutdown still shows the same behaviour.

I can confirm that with the shutdown. In my case I see the shutdown screen for like half second and then the screen goes black for a few seconds and then my machine reboots. With the 2008.08 the screen was there all the time and just before reboot I saw the shutdown list (terminal).
