Use --disable-warnings-as-errors instead of manually passing compiler options
This makes the build less prone to fail when compiler versions change
and new warnings migth get enabled by default. While at it, change the
build instructions to do the autoconf/automake bootstrap in prepare(),
disable the verbose build commands with V=0, and arrange to make
out-of-tree builds.
