@codebling Kali only passes ro quiet splash. Its kernel's version is 5.10.0-kali5-amd64 -- I'll see if I can get the same kernel running on Arch.

The sudo issue doesn't happen with other commands.

@glibg10b interesting that the other driver works in Kali but not Arch. Might be worth checking what kernel options Kali passes on boot. I've had a look at the repo and I do see fixes for kernel 5.12, so it should support up to that version.

The sudo issue you describe is very weird. It doesn't happen with any other commands? (it isn't just a timing thing?)

@codebling I switched to 5.10.68-1-lts and now the previous problem doesn't happen anymore, but I now get:

Error setting channel: command failed: Device or resource busy (-16)
Error -16 likely means your card was set back to station mode by something.
Removing non-monitor wls160u4u1 interface...

You already have a wls160u4u1 device but it is NOT in station mode.
Whatever you did, don't do it again.
Please run "iw wls160u4u1 del" before attempting to continue

even when neither NetworkManager nor wpa_supplicant is running.

@codebling When I run sudo (even just sudo --help), the terminal freezes. Neither Ctrl+C nor Ctrl+Z do anything. It also happens to network-related programs like iw and NetworkManager. At about 120 seconds after running sudo airmon-ng start <interface>, I start seeing errors in the journal about some of KDE Plasma's components being unresponsive. modprobe -r and rmmod freeze as well when trying to unload this module.

It doesn't happen with 8xxxu, but it unfortunately doesn't support packet injection.

Another driver I've tried (https://github.com/drygdryg/RTL8192EU) exhibits the same symptoms in Arch, but works perfectly fine in Kali.

Linux version is 5.14.7-arch1-1. Adapter is a TL-W823N v32.

I'll make a Github issue and paste this there.

@glibg10b drivers are tricky. You seem to be implying that this is causing an issue with sudo specifically (although this sounds like a general driver issue), can you clarify? What version of the linux kernel are you running? I have used this driver successfully with no issues, but not recently. Can try opening an issue in the GitHub page.

This module breaks sudo for me for some reason (even after re-installing Arch). When I run sudo airmon-ng start <interface>, the output of airmon-ng freezes, sudo doesn't work, and various parts of Linux start freezing/misbehaving. Even modprobe -r and rmmod stop working, so I have to reboot. Can anyone else confirm?

This package clones Nachoc's 8192eu-dkms package but uses the -git suffix for VCS packages, which is useful/required for some AUR/package managers as it allows auto-updating.
