Thanks a lot, malcreatuire. After getting the right md5sum and changing the PKGBUILD, it worked wonderfully. (Don't know if I should have done it differently, but it worked. O:) )

I think you can get the current filename with:
wget -q -O - 'https://activsoftware.co.uk/linux/repos/ubuntu/dists/focal/non-oss/binary-amd64/Packages' | grep "activinspire_"
Filename: pool/focal/a/ac/activinspire_2004-3.4.16-1-amd64.deb
something like this will print the current url:
wget -q -O - 'https://activsoftware.co.uk/linux/repos/ubuntu/dists/focal/non-oss/binary-amd64/Packages' | grep "activinspire_" | awk '{print "https://activsoftware.co.uk/linux/repos/ubuntu/"$2}'

The new download url is ''https://activsoftware.co.uk/linux/repos/ubuntu/pool/focal/a/ac/activinspire_2004-3.4.16-1-amd64.deb'' for now.
I used ''apt-get download --print-uris activinspire'' on a debian system for retrieving this url.
As for wayland: I am using gnome under wayland on my personal laptop. But is suppose, i am running activinspire under xwayland. QT is lamenting about a missing wayland plugin:
qt.qpa.plugin: Could not find the Qt platform plugin "wayland" in ""
On my Laptop my pen also works nicely.

Hi there,
I just tried to install the recent version of ActivInspire. We use it in school and I'd love to be able to work with it at home. But I didn't update since 2.something or other. Yet I always get an error telling me there was an error when downloading the deb package. I get an access denied, when trying to access the link provided by malcreatuire. I believe this means the link is blocked by now and there's no way without manual intervention via virtual machine or am I mistaken?

Thank you for the link, now there is no manual intervention required for installation.
Regarding your pen issue: I can use the application on a touch display/panel without any issues, as long as I use x11. Maybe you need to change some settings within the application which input to use. I am still perplexed how I can run this application in x11, but not in wayland, especially after @malcreatuire reported that they can execute it in wayland.
Running under wayland I get the following error message:
/usr/bin/inspire: line 12: 7673 Segmentation fault (core dumped) ./Inspire "$@"
dmesg reports segfaults in libc.so.6[16f39d].
Line 12 in /usr/bin/inspire just launches the executable file in /opt/activinspire/Inspire with setting the required library paths beforehand.
I don't get this error message in x11. I have xwayland installed, but it still does not work.
edit: It cannot be because of any environment variables set differently in the respective window managers, because I can reproduce this bug in x11 by using the kiosk wayland compositor "cage" within x11:
cage inspire
, which results in the same error message as above.malcreatuire commented on 2024-05-21 19:22 (UTC)
This Line in the PKGBUILD works for me: source=("http://activsoftware.co.uk/linux/repos/ubuntu/pool/focal/a/ac/activinspire_2004-3.3.15-1-amd64.deb"
Also activinspire seems to work under wayland. But i have problems with writing with the pen. The pen just draw a line between start and end. It works fine with my mouse, though.

edit: @malcreatuire provided an official link to download the .deb package, which I integrated into the PKGBUILD. Manual intervention is no longer required. Thanks!
edit: The binaries only seem to work in an x11 session. Trying to execute them on a wayland compositor leads to weird segmentation faults. If someone can fix the problem or just find an easy workaround, please do tell. Thank you.

Hello, i try (and succeed) to run 2.24 on my arch.
So it seems to work from my 5min test, but does it work well... I see some new hack from promothean :
Maybe, it will help you to come back as our beloved maintainer !!!
Malstrond commented on 2022-12-02 08:02 (UTC)
This package is currently outdated.
However the new version 2.24.69389 [1] has the following new dependencies:
libweb.so.6 - Not packaged by arch, only .7 is available
libre.so.5 - Not packaged by arch, only .9 is available
It is looking for symbol _ZN3re23RE23Arg12parse_stringEPKcmPv in its own packaged libQt6WebEngineCore.so.6, which does not exist. If you make it use the libQt6WebEngineCore.so.6 form the Arch package qt6-webengine, it is looking for Symbol _ZN9QtPrivate25QMetaTypeInterfaceWrapperI4QUrlE8metaTypeE, which does not exist in the Arch version of the library.
I'm unable to resolve these dependencies, disowning.

Update: As of version 2.23 Promethean has noticed that their Java stuff doesn't work and has dropped the equation editor dependency on Java.
----------------------Outdated----------------------
As I said in this post [ https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/activinspire/#comment-759471 ], I am aware.
However I haven't been able to figure out a solution yet.
If you trace the Inspire binary you can see that it's actually searching /usr/lib/jvm/*, but then it doesn't load the runtime.
