Potential breaking change: the service file security has been tightened. If you altered it any way on your machine, you might not be able to start ASF.

You can debug the problem introduced with SystemCallFilter, by following https://unix.stackexchange.com/a/681075

Starting with 5.1.4.0-1, the custom service files provided with this package have been replaced with the one upstream.

It uses a EnvironmentFile in /etc/asf to point to the right dir (remember, you want n-1 from asf config folder).

It also serves to populate the user and home folder for the daemon.

@Terrance: The switch to binaries is a recurring necessity. Somehow, the dotnet packages in extra fail to build asf. I haven't been able to pin down the cause. edit: It might come down to dotnet not being built with preview features. Not sure.

The latest bump switches to -bin packages of the .NET dependencies (which requires the AUR packages specifically, rather than the general ones like dotnet-sdk etc. "provided" by both the main repo and AUR packages) -- is that intentional?

I can see the AUR .NET 10.x packages are based on sdk4xx compared to sdk1xx in the repos, though I can't see an obvious specific version requirement upstream.

Watching the kiddies play? :)

I figured that since the service file includes the --system-required, dbus should be added. On the other hand, it's already a hard dependency of systemd on arch. I'll push it to optional for all the non-conformists out there.

JustArchi commented on 2026-01-06 09:39 (UTC)

Hey @Gilrain, the dbus dependency you've added can be classified as optional dependency instead.

It's required only if one is using specific cmdline arg, and even in this case ASF has fallback mechanisms for when it's not available, so it's definitely not mandatory - especially when installing ASF on servers and/or not using the cmdline arg at all.

Of course, you're the maintainer here, I'm just giving a hint since I've noticed that :)

@Terrance: I can't reproduce your issue in clean build environment.

Maybe you have a conflict somewhere.

Here are the packages it pulls during build: dotnet-host-10.0.0.sdk100-1 dotnet-runtime-10.0.0.sdk100-1 dotnet-targeting-pack-10.0.0.sdk100-1 libunwind-1.8.2-1 perl-error-0.17030-2 perl-mailtools-2.22-2 perl-timedate-2.33-8 zlib-ng-2.3.2-1 aspnet-runtime-10.0.0.sdk100-1 dotnet-sdk-10.0.0.sdk100-1 git-2.52.0-2

Having just upgraded to .NET 10.0.0 from Extra, I'm unable to build this package:

==> Starting build()...
A fatal error was encountered. The library 'libhostpolicy.so' required to execute the application was not found in '/usr/share/dotnet/shared/Microsoft.NETCore.App/10.0.0'.

Not sure if this is a repeat of #comment-1041687?

I had trouble compiling version 6.2.2.x on my machine using the dotnet 9.0.9.sdk110 packages in extra, see: https://github.com/JustArchiNET/ArchiSteamFarm/issues/3487

However, the up to date -bin packages present in AUR work.

Package updated to latest stable release candidate. I saw no issue on a mostly barebone install.

Regarding the build issue reported by BoBeR182, as stated in the error message: it seems to be a dependency error due to a security check. The Latest prerelease version from the github, 5.5.2.1 doesn't have this problem anymore and builds if you try to attempt it.

Switching the package to the prerelease temporarily might be a good idea until the next stable release.
