Just curious, is this ABI compatible with indicator-application?
I just spent the last several days going through a very painful process of reviving wingpanel-indicator-ayatana, under the assumption that the Ayatana indicators had died with Unity, and that its dependencies could only be sourced from the aging, abandoned repositories in Launchpad.
The version of the indicator I packaged is itself a community maintained revival of one discontinued by elementary OS upstream.
Its install guide gives no indication that its developers are any more aware than I was that someone is still working on Ayatana indicators, but I did find a possibly related issue report (waiting to hear back).
