I've updated this and submitted the merge request now. For the HTTPS issue, I think if there are availability issues then the user can try HTTP (or wait out the downtime), but HTTPS is a better default in the current era and is preferred by the guidelines.

eclairevoyant, I think it is a good practice to not automate the updates, specially for unstable sources. I'm not sure about the AUR community thoughts on this atm, but I remember that users were supposed to check the PKGBUILD before installing. I'm quite unsure about using SSL for package downloads, as I have had availability issues with debian and ubuntu server pools in the past, when using HTTPS. I'm running out of time this year so I think I'll disown the package because I can't update it atm, could you please merge with bdf2psf-debian?

Is there really a reason to have this package and bdf2psf-debian? They are providing the same package but this one is just out of date.

Not sure why this is pinned to stable as well, it makes more sense to pin to unstable and also use HTTPS sources. pkgver() won't work if the source file happens to be missing, which happened on the other package. SKIP should also not be used per guidelines

Sounds workable :) Your package wasn't installing for me thus my exploration of how to fix it, and perhaps my pkgver can even be improved. Using debian as a pseudo-VCS might even be writable into makepkg itself—often times, debian is the upstream maintainer, so it makes sense.

fbrennan, that pkgver is clever! What if I change upstream to packages.debian.org/stable/ and make bdf2psf-git with unstable source?

I have uploaded two alternatives to this package due to it being old and quite often out of date.

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/bdf2psf-debian/

This version uses Debian's own deb servers as a pseudo-VCS! It auto downloads the newest version. Check out PKGBUILD for how.

This version is if you're old school and want an ancient release for some reason. Sometimes I need one. :-)

You should bump epoch when going to older release.

Please update the version to 1.200

getting the following error when trying to install:

curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 404 Not Found ==> ERROR: Failure while downloading http://deb.debian.org/debian/pool/main/c/console-setup/bdf2psf_1.197_all.deb

the error is occuring because the pkg number is now 1.199 vs 1.97 on this build
