Thank you for marking the package as out-of-date. But you not need.

I am working with the founder of betterbird and receive the information about the new version immediately. And I am not 24 hours in front of my PC. Sometimes I have a private life and need to sleep. But you can be sure, I am doing my best to update as soon as possible.

Kind regards

Oh, sorry, I've restored the upstream betterbird-115.15.0-bb32.en-US.linux-x86_64.tar.bz2 file.

Woopoos commented on 2024-09-09 08:32 (UTC)

The package doesn't build as the archive doesn't exist anymore. Apparently there was some change upstream to the build so _build needs to be changed to bb32-build2 and the sha256sum adjusted.

Please read the comment on www.betterbird.eu:

Note that Thunderbird 128 and hence Betterbird 128 is shipping with a broken backend causing IMAP folder corruption under some circumstances. Some Thunderbird users report that they need to repair they IMAP mailboxes multiple times per week. Hence version 128 SHOULD NOT BE USED IN PRODUCTION!!

For details please follow this bug (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1890230). Note that since the Thunderbird folks forced version 128.0.1 onto unsuspecting users, they are getting a high volume of reports that people's e-mail can't be displayed any more.

We estimate that version 128.3.0 may be safe to use.

BTW, in Firefox' ESR, 115.15.0 is replaced by 128.3.0 in October, so there is no rush.

I have submitted a patch to the maintainer, but anyone looking for an up to date PKGBUILD can use the following patch:

Wow, we just had a user complaint about this via support e-mail. That user was using Gnome. To our knowledge, there were no corresponding changes in BB to explain this behaviour. The changes to enable global menu already shipped in 115.11.0-bb28, so they don't explain it.

What happens if you go back to 115.11.0-bb28? Still broken?

ak2021 commented on 2024-07-03 11:27 (UTC)

@goliat88 I'm using the flatpak version and I'm also experiencing the same problem.

Does anybody facing a problem with poping new window of betterbird not on the top of screen?

Hi, thanks for providing the AUR package for betterbird. Herewith a patch to make betterbird use the system dictionaries (via hunspell) so that the user does not have to download dictionaries themselves. This works just as in the thunderbird Arch package.

@Betterbird thank you. I agree it's better to handle this upstream at Betterbird. I have posted related issues on GitHub.

I'll talk to the AUR maintainer so that he can use the same file. The only difference is one line: AUR: Icon=betterbird FlatPak: Icon=eu.betterbird.Betterbird
