Thanks for bringing this up. I am aware of this error. It doesn't occur when building in a clean chroot using makechrootpkg, as recommended in the Creating packages wiki article.

At first glance it seems like in the configure step there is no correct handling of the Lua version, if you have installed more than one version, which is the case for me (lua and lua53 installed) and most probably for you, too. I'm currently discussing this issue with upstream.

Build fails with this error

checking if Lua header version matches 5.4... no
configure: error: cannot find Lua includes
==> ERROR: A failure occurred in build().
