Really? You probably know better, but care to explain why?

Fixed.

Found the error: The script generates a biglybt.desktop in ~/.local/share/applications. prepare() isn't run in a chroot so it get's generated when running makepkg.
Removing prepare() and moving it's body to package() fixes the problem.

Works fine on Arch.
You should probably give more details.

I get the same error when launching through the DE. starting from the terminal works. You should probably fix that.

In order to get rid of annoying update messages at startup, go into Tools > Options > Interface > Start. Disable the 'Check for latest version" and 'Auto download updates' options.
Also disable 'Enable plugin update checking' in Tools > Options > Plugins > Plugin Update.
