I have tested the package on a fresh Arch Linux installation, and after adding myself to the games group and restarting the VM, I could load a ROM and open TAStudio without any errors. I'm really clueless as to why that's happening. I've changed the post-install message to tell users to reboot their PC after running the usermod command, in hopes of alleviating any permission issues.

I've had two CachyOS users report that EmuHawk isn't able to write e.g. SaveRAM files to the default location which is under /opt/bizhawk, much like slashinfty's last comment from April.

@slashinfty Tried to reproduce the error with the same game but couldn't, could you try restarting your PC to see if it still doesn't let you open TAStudio? In theory, logging out and back in should work, but a full-on restart might help.

I added myself to the games group, logged out and back in, and I can launch BizHawk and load a ROM. However, if I try to open TAStudio, I get this error:

System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path "/opt/bizhawk/Gameboy/SaveRAM/Super Mario Land 2 - 6 Golden Coins (USA, Europe).SaveRAM.new" is denied.

@thebigboo Weird, could you try running /opt/bizhawk/EmuHawkMono.sh directly from the terminal and see if BizHawk also exits out?

thebigboo commented on 2025-04-21 22:36 (UTC)

@bemxio Running it from console causes a crash but now it runs otherwise.

@thebigboo I've changed the PKGBUILD a bit to give execute permissions to any user for the EmuHawkMono.sh file, please try running BizHawk now and let me know if that change has made a difference.

fish: Unknown command. '/usr/bin/bizhawk' exists but is not an executable file. Still error despite being added to games group.

@v1993 Thank you for mentioning it, I added the message inside post_install(). I don't remember why I didn't just copy the .install file over from the previous bizhawk-monort package, either way, it's here now. I apologize for not adding or mentioning it beforehand.

Hmm... looks like the notice I wrote didn't make it over to this package.
