There's a new
-DBOX32=1
build option as of 1 month ago. It's not in a release but available in the latest git sources. It allows running 32-bit applications on 64-bit only hosts. Could this be enabled for all architectures?I talked to Seb, the creator of Box64, for more details. He said that there is not a
box32
binary but, instead, you can just re-use thebox64
binary to run 32-bit applications now. This is very useful on Arm platforms where the latest generation is 64-bit only. Box64 was only useful for debugging on x86_64 systems but now it can help to remove the need for 32-bit system dependencies (although it does not have dyanrec/JIT support for that architecture yet so it'll be slow there - everything else does: Arm, LoongArch, and RISC-V).Only very basic applications and games are working right now. The most interesting being Unreal. With having Box32 enabled, folks can better help test and report issues to the upstream project with this new feature.

@grappas: Your error seems to suggest that the yay cache of an old build is causing problems. You should check how to deal with that. The errors you are seeing are most likely due to improper use of
yay
, so please don't spam AUR package comments with AUR helper user issues.grappas commented on 2021-11-18 23:18 (UTC)

@grappas: Sorry I cannot reproduce. It builds perfectly fine over here. Please try and build without using an AUR helper. (Those are not supported anyway.)
PS: I can't see which architecture you're trying to build this on. This application will only work on aarch64, not on any of the 32bit flavours.
