I have created a new source package: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/64215950/brightd-0.4.1-3.src.tar.gz I did some cleanup on the PKGBUILD, removed rc scripts and config, and added a .service file. To customize startup parameters of brightd, copy /usr/lib/systemd/system/brightd.service to /etc/systemd/system and modify ExecStart by hand.

It'd be nice to have a systemd .service file for this!

Mex: Try adding 'Option "GrabEventDevice" "false"' to your InputClass-Section in the xorg-config for the synaptic touchpad. A paste of my 10-synaptics.conf can be found here: http://goo.gl/2tN8q - good luck, pal :)

Does not brighten when I use my synaptic touch pad, only when I use my nipple mouse... any ideas?

Ok, i fixed this package on my system (moving on to the /sys-interface to check AC status, ignore intel_backlight) and also changed the dimming time according to 0marks value. Let me know if this update broke something on your system!

I've been using this tool for some months - now with kernel 3.1 it doesn't work anymore as it used to. I get funny sounds when dimming and it also doesn't dim up all the way anymore. Sometimes the screen even stays dark and would only react when manually setting a new brightness value. Would be great if somebody could fix this - thanks alot :)

Brightd did not really fade on my system, but switched from light to dark. Add this in the PKBUILD directly before the make to have a nice fade (it sleeps now 100000 microseconds (0.1s) between each step. My x41 has 7 steps, so it takes about a second. Change the number if needed): mv brightd.c b; cat b | sed 's/usleep(200);/usleep(100000);/g' > brightd.c; rm b
