It isn't working on my Brother HL-5240. When I try to print anything the page gets added to the queue but it's instantly completed without printing anything.
On the brother website, the recommended driver version is the (2.0.1-1); i see that the initial commit has this version, but because of my skill issues (I am a new Arch Linux user) i can't install that version of this aur package. I tried cloning the repository with git, doing checkout to the old commit, and trying to makepkg but the missing dependencies didn't allow me to install it.
Any possible fix?

You need to determine which package is the problem. I took out the modifications.

Hi severach! When I need to print past thursday, printer don't received documents. Then I tryed restart cups, reboot computer, remove and add printer again, ... and no logs with the problem, no systemctl status issues, etc. Then I downgraded both packages, brother-lpr-drivers-laser and brother-cups-wrapper-laser using 2.0.1_3_0ubuntu5 and 2.0.1_2_0ubuntu6-1, then I could print again.

brother-lpr-drivers-laser is identical to before so it will have no effect. I printed to a file://MFC7820N device. Both ubuntu5 and ubuntu7 produce the same output. Did you downgrade the PKGBUILD or downgrade to the previous ubuntu5? If you kept the same ubuntu7 but downgraded the PKGBUILD then remove lines gzip or sed to see which breaks the printer.

Bugged for my Brother MFC7820N, I have returned to previous version and everything is ok again.

I'm disowning this, because I don't use a Brother printer any more. However, it looks like upstream just pushed an update, 2.0.1-2-0ubuntu7 [a].
