did not know that one can just adopt someone else's package. lol

glad to be rid of it. happy maintaining!

I found a link that contains specific version info for the binary: https://bstack-local-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/binaries/release/v8.9/BrowserStackLocal-linux-x64.zip

Hopefully the link proves to be stable enough, but I adopted the package to update the link. Package is now at v8.9.

I am happy to announce that I have convinced their engineering team that not providing any form of version management to Linux users doesn't keep their user base happy.

It might take some time, but they have added proper versioning into their roadmap

Seems like they moved release notes to this url: https://www.browserstack.com/docs/local-testing/releases-and-downloads/release-notes

They used to announce their releases here: https://www.browserstack.com/local-testing/releases

But no changes there since 8.4. We're at 8.6 now. Not providing versioned binary packages is not the best way to distribute software.

it's out of sync again. you need to actually point it at a specific version, and then update when new versions come out or this is going to keep happening

The binaries are claimed to be "Digitally Signed", like that actually means anything without an actual signature that they don't share. but that should be what we verify against because I can't find a way to download a specific version

new sum is 9bb3b76091ad417717925a9ee9761565c425a9de53c0077ca66f2e32725821eed1d09abfaa01abbc056c993767045d3612a63ad8ced3f73447de803aee8b51fd

I updated the checksum. Seems like they changed the binary, but it is still version 8.5. I can't find the download-page for the local-testing binary anymore. Seems like it is gone...

current sha is supposed to be 9bb3b76091ad417717925a9ee9761565c425a9de53c0077ca66f2e32725821eed1d09abfaa01abbc056c993767045d3612a63ad8ced3f73447de803aee8b51fd

I don't think it's a tooling issue:

curl -s 'https://www.browserstack.com/browserstack-local/BrowserStackLocal-linux-x64.zip' | sha512sum

NB 8.5 has release notes now. Doesn't explain the issue before its release date, maybe they patched and replaced it?
