Thanks for this! With this patch, noto color emoji seem to work great in both Qt & GTK apps.

I can't figure out how to get a lib32 build (for Steam) to work, though. Tried adapting the changes from this pkgbuild to the official lib32-cairo one (from abs) but can't get it to compile because of missing spectre ("/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lspectre"). As there's no lib32-libspectre, I'm at my wits end. Any pointers?

@Taijian: Thank you, fixed.

your PKGBUILD fails on my system when trying to apply the patch. After changing the relevant line to:

patch -p1 -i ${srcdir}/colored-emoji.patch

it now works.

Yes, this actually works with noto-emoji-fonts in community.

You may need this fontconfig file: https://gist.github.com/hexchain/47f550472e79d0805060

The screenshot in that gist is a bit outdated. There's no problem in browsers afaics.

Does this actually work? I installed a colored emoji font and it didn't load. My understanding is you need these patches also: https://github.com/matthiasclasen/cairo/commits/matthiasc/emoji-5
