You know what? I'll just disown it right now. The package IS working without any further change, nothing is broken, nobody is complaining and I don't even own the printer anymore. Feel free to maintain it or leave it as it is.

I simply copied everything over from canon-pixma-mg5500-complete, changed it and uploaded it for convenience. If you want to optimize anything, I'd be happy to give the maintainership over to you. I don't think this package will ever be used by many people, so IMHO it is not worth the effort.

Extracting the .deb files with bsdtar would be much more efficient than using deb2targz. You would then have the data.tar.* file that was inside the .deb to extract.
