I found it useful for helping me to have a full localization support in community/cataclysm-dda-tiles. It's working fine just as the community/cataclysm-dda, if anyone want to use this together with the cataclysm-dda-tiles, just change the "conflicts=" into "provides=" in the PKGBUILD

@petronny Thank you for your report. I've checked and updated the PKGBUILD according to your suggestions.

  1. Lua modding has indeed been removed from the 0.E so I've removed the dependency and options.
  2. All patched from the prepare function were not necessary anymore so they've been removed.
  3. XDG dirs are more standard and that's also what the offical packages uses so I've switched to it too.
  4. Using make install helped trim the amount of manual copies a lot. Unfortunately there are still a few things to update manually like the documentation or the license so I have to keep those for the time being.

Thank you for your help and feel free to report any further issues you may find when building this PKGBUILD.

Hi, there are some suggestions about the PKGBUILD from

  1. lua modding has been remove. There is not need to keep lua as an dependency now.
  2. prepare function also can be removed. CDDA is now using ncursesw6 and can be compiled without any warnings.
  3. USE_HOME_DIR is a bad idea. CDDA supports USE_XDG_DIR. This can also keep consistent with the official package.
  4. A basic installation can be easily performed by make install. There is no need to copy all files manually.

Could you fix them?

0.C-6 The package can finally compile without a hard clang dependency. It's not a pretty solution but it works.

There also new options that have been added to the package.

@tsaber Unfortunately, the 0.C version is pretty old. People from the Cataclysm-dda were bewildered that I was trying to compile it.

It does not compile with GCC nor does it without the patch. Now, it seems like it doesn't even compile with the patch anymore.

I'll try to make it compile again and submit an update here. If not, I guess I'll be making a cataclysm-dda-ncurses-git package soon.

I think the patch needs to be removed. I get a lot of deprecated errors when trying to build this package.

@Wuzzy I was unable to make it pick up the system language when using the de_DE.UTF-8 locale but I was able to set the game in German. When adding LANGUAGES="en_US de_DE" to the make options. You can probably skip the en_US. EDIT : Damn. I was sure it was on by default!

Ah, now I remember how to do localized builds. Just add “LOCALIZE=1” to the make command line (it is off by default). See also the Makefile.

@Wuzzy Thanks for the heads up. Do you have anything related to the langs at the end of makepkg's output? Also, what are your locale variables ?

For some reason, the game is always only localized in English for me. When using the settings, neither using the system language nor using my language (German) explicitly there does not change anything.

The 0.C-3 version is just some cleaning up of the PKGBUILD. It will not make your version behave any better than 0.C-2. If you are updating from 0.C-2 or before, you should probably uninstall, clean /usr/share/cataclysm-dda and them install 0.C-3 or higher.

The problem is corrected, you can now compile it with clang 3.6. I have to use a patch (which will be most likely merged on the master branch) adapted for the 0.C release. Link for the issue is here: if you are interested.

It's a problem with clang 3.6. They're working on it upstream. I'm going to investigate and release a new version of the PKGBUILD when I find a solution.

Thanks for the notice. I'm subscribed to Cataclysm's blog but apparently it's pretty slow to make news about new releases so I've just subscribed to their github releases.
