@Thormme : sorry for late answer, are you still there? I was wondering about adding gcc5 dependency and hardocing use of gcc5 inside of the amd's script. However - since I don't have pre-GCN card - I won't be able to properly test it. Can someone test it for me (after I prepare it, i just don't want to waste time on preparation if there will be no interested person)?

I had the exact same problem with the same log output as AwesomeHaircut.
It's not a good solution, but I have a workaround:
Downgrade to a pre-4.8 linux/linux-headers, I used 4.6.5-1
At this point the fglrx driver won't rebuild because of pie defaulting to on by default in gcc 6.
Downgrade to gcc/gcc-libs 5.3
Rebuild fglrx (catalyst-hook)

At this point startx works for me, though the outdated GLIBCXX causes a number of programs to fail. If you managed to disable pie for the fglrx rebuild you could probably get it working with a newer gcc.

The driver behaves the same way with Linux 4.10 and Linux-LTS 4.9.

I haven't gotten this driver working ever though so idk.

I got to where it was all installed and configured but when I started X it gave me a black screen and unresponsive keyboard. ssh worked though so that saved some reboots. I ended up going back to the open source driver for work but I do plan to give it another shot tomorrow.

Also please note that to run it in post-libglvnd era you have to use pre-libglvnd mesa's packages, you can find it ie in [catalyst] repo.
I am planning to also paste it in [catalyst-hd234k] repo
Edit: I also created non-libglvnd packages: mesa-noglvnd and lib32-mesa-noglvnd groups
(tho on AUR it comes with *mesa-libgl* packages which should be avoid by catalyst users, I left it there for package base to be more "general")

I think you forgot to add "hd234k" (or some other change) at the end of these two changes in build() in your last commit :

I was able to succesfully compile module on 4.10.1 kernel with this new patch.
Can't promise if it will really work, I'm afraid that it needs general rewrite and not some simple patches...

I have an [AMD/ATI] R700 [Radeon HD 4850 X2] have installed the new kernel 4.8.10 fglrx Compiles but if i try to run XServer the whole system freez. I get no errors in Xorg or by loading the Kernel Module i switched back to the LTS kernel evering worked fine

I am using an ATI Radeon 4650. I used the technique described in the Arch wiki: running this script:

Please keep updating this package! I need it for gaming, and I can assist you in testing. It works fine, save for a few things. SuperTuxKart does not start and I can't get rid of the AMD Unsupported hardware logo. When I try to fix it using the common fix around the Internet that you should replace the content of a certain file with some other binary looking code, I can't get X to run anymore, it gives error messages upon startup. Reinstalling Catalyst works again.

Ah yes, the "custom kernel" section of the wiki... is kinda old and geeky I would say. Leave it.

Just install this (catalyst-total-hd234k) package and dependencies (like dkms) and it will do the job. As I mentioned earlier DKMS will try to compile fglrx module, whenever it's needed

As for catalyst-utils - it is a component of this package, as noted in description and "Provides" table. But in fact wiki is wrong about it, catalyst-utils is not needed to compile the kernel module. Without catalyst-utils catalyst won't work at all, but you can compile module without it. You just need something like catalyst-dkms (it's also part of this package) which provides sources, lib and instructions to perform compilation.

What is the reason of changing deps? Do you want to remove linux? Sure you can, but keep in mind that there's always some probability that linux-zen will fail in some way, and by keeping standard linux you will leave yourself an easier way to access/fix your system then.

Just install linux-zen, check if fglrx module compiles on it, add zen to bootloader, reboot to zen and run some GL app/game :) - imho this is the easiest way of testing zen+fglrx combo

BTW just in case: you may have as many kernels as you want, ARCH won't add kernel automatically to the bootloader (at least my doesnt do that)), DKMS will try to build fglrx module for every present kernel, don't forget to install kernel headers

I'm unable to perform actuall test as my card (290x) isn't supported by this driver.
I can only tell that fglrx module get compiled on 4.6.4-zen.

I can not guarantee that it will work with future release of zen kernel (neither the big one like 4.7, or smaller like 4.6.7), and that's why I would like to avoid such a dependency.

- just a little change that should fix 4.3 kernel support, gcc49 is still in dependencies list

more important, testing, updated driver is here:
- it now has 4.4 kernel support - to do this I completely removed block_all_signals function as it was completely removed from the kernel, I just don't know what impact will it have, there's a little possibility that it won't work at all :).
Plus we still don't know if my previous testing update which removed gcc49 dep endency is working.

Is there a "daredevil" who can perform tests on this testing -33.1, at least on gcc5?

I'm unable to test and this is pretty important, please perform some basic tests.
There's little possibility that X server won't start with it.

- adding support for up to 4.3 linux kernel
- adding custom ACPI files for events handling
- you need gcc49 package to build modules for kernel >= 4.2

BTW i was able to apply amd changes from crimson 15.11 to catalyst 15.9 and gain gcc5 support. Its more than probable that it could be also done with this package (it just will be a little harder, since there was a lot of changes within this almost 3 years). I will surelly do this some day, just don't know when it will come

@Vi0L0: I haven't had the time for extensive testing, but your patch for 4.2/4.3 kernel is working for me on my Thinkpad T400 (HD3450). I do have an oddity where coming back from sleep or another VT leaves the screen blank until 'poked' by changing resolution with xrandr, but that was happening with the previous version as well.

Everything else (2D accel, enough 3D accel for glxgears and Minecraft) seem to be working fine. Drop me a line if there are specific tests you'd like me to try.

I tested this patch, more complex ubuntu patch and even installed manjaro, I'm always getting such errors:

I was also corresponding with manjaro dev and it turned out that he didn't actually test it on real hardware, he just make it compile for 4.2 kernel.
Don't know about ubuntu patches, if they were tested.

The problem may somehow lay on my hardware (or the way how new kernel speaks with my harwdare), if this patch works for you - please let me know.

Upon proper installation of the prerequisite xorg-server1.12, xorg-server1.12-devel and xf86-input-evdev1.12 AUR packages (in addition to what this package calls for), this package works flawlessly on a fresh system install with a current Arch Linux kernel (3.19xx). The fglrx_pci module compiles against the 3.19xx kernel without issues.

If you mean 'extraction failed' while module build then you should look at your /tmp - there could be not enought space or something else like filesystem failure

- the package is a lot bigger because I added !strip to the options, it's leaving symbols in the libraries so the package (and libs themselves) are bigger - but it could be useful, especially in some debugging

KDE 4.11 kwins effects won't work with OpenGL and Catalyst 13.1. It says "check X configuration file". GPU HD4570m.
I think the problem starts from KDE4.11 or kernel 3.11, because with 4.10 with 3.9 all works perfect.
Gnome effects goes well.

SyncFirst was removed from the pacman 4.1 and so we can no longer force linux-headers to be installed in first place...

Instead of using old catalyst-hook method which was not working well with pacman 4.1 + linux kernel, I have added a new method - automatic re-compilation while system shutdown/reboot

To enable 'automatic re-compilation while system shutdown/reboot' testing feature run these commands as root:
systemctl enable catalyst-hook
systemctl start catalyst-hook

I did what you said but after adding your lines and doing a pacman -Syu or pacman -S xorg-server i still get errors that there are unsolvable dependencies. Same if i do add

as supposed in the Wiki. What do i have to do afterwards? I can't even remove xorg-server. Should i try it with force-option?

@Vi0l0: Thanks for this package and your efforts on giving support for unlucky ATI users...! =)

Btw, I'd like to give you some suggestions (if you have a bit of spare time to do them, OC):

1 - After compiling the fglrx.ko kernel module, compress it with gzip (gzip -9 fglrx.ko). In my older machine, it doesn't affect significantly the boot time (<1 second) and the module size is significantly reduced.
2 - About the "dirty" 3.4 patch, there's also a new "cleaner" patch available on Phorogit, if you want to try it (this one applies to OpenSUSE):

This package would be updated when only AMD would release it's updates for your hardware.
It will also be updated when there would be such a need - like patching to support new kernel.

All AUR users who owns Radeon HD 2xxx 3xxx 4xxx have to use this package when want to use catalyst driver
