Yes, it will work once you will bump dependencies to linux<4.16 Sorry for no update, but I'm still missing time, hopefully will find some on weekend.

any support for kernel 4.15?

Vi0L0 commented on 2018-02-18 19:36

@martadinata666 thanks, i used your PKGBUILD to create package which I then put to xorg repositories, like: [xorg117] Server = http://mirror.hactar.xyz/Vi0L0/xorg117/x86_64

in case of libxfont dependency, i modified from libxfont2 official one, in case someone need it https://pastebin.com/raw/7U7ef72J ;)

@ViOLO sorry i did not mention that i used the right catalyst driver HD234. I initialy post on catalyst package, but i used the right one.

It seems that i have the same problem as described in https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/catalyst-total-hd234k but the workaround seems tricky.

I'm not sure if this card is supported by other linux ditribution, I love Arch so for now i will keep the radeon driver...

Thanks for all.

@ian57: check description of this package: Radeons HD 2 3 4 xxx ARE NOT SUPPORTED.

Newer catalyst doesn't support pre-GCN architectures at all :(. You can still get legacy catalyst: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/catalyst-total-hd234k

But I'm unable to actually support it well because I'm not owning such card. Last time when I was able to patch legacy fglrx module and compile it succesfully - it gave blank screen for the users :(.

However check out last comment of Thormme since its giving some hope, at: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/catalyst-total-hd234k

@ViOlO Thanks for your time and your work. I installed successufly catalyst-dkms kernel 4.10 and xorg 1.12, fglrx loads well but startx does not start and freezes the kernel with an error saying the hardware is already in use. radeon is blacklisted and xorg is well configured.

I'm trying to get the hardware acceleration on an old acer aspire 7735z with a radeon mobility 4070. This laptop has an amazing 17,3" screen :)

radeon module is working well,

For catalyst on HD4xxx, you confirm that a 4.10 kernel and xorg-server < 1.13 are needed?

thanks in advance

@ian57: sorry for delay, I actually thought that nobody is using these old packages ;) I updated pkgs in aur and repos, try now. And thanks for the info about libxfont, I will check and update xorg repo

ian57 commented on 2018-01-17 17:22

[edit] I installed libxfont1 thanks to https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/l/

nedd to test if works now ;) [/edit]

Thx for the great work around ATI cards.

I have a problem, I cannot in install xorg117 on my arch laptop due to libxfont dependency. pacman and aur only find libxfont2 aand the xorg-server refuses to install.

Have you got a workaround?

So I tried to compile catalyst (with yaourt), for that I installed a linux-lts kernel and headers (4.9 < 4.14) but yaourt -S catalyst refuses to compile due to dependency to kernel < 4.14 not found.

have you got an idea?

thanks in advance

leonekmi: with 4.12.x and 4.13.x kernels - yes
with fresh xserver - no, and it will never happen probably
