@never_released: Ok, I'll ask the maintainer of checkra1n-ubuntu-bin to rename it.

The APT packages for Ubuntu were actually built on CentOS. Feel free to name the GUI package checkra1n.

I think that using checkra1n and checkra1n-cli as the two packages is the better choice. Note that we might push APT packages for other architectures with GUI support later on too.

The naming of the checkra1n* packages is a little confusing right now. We have three packages:

  • checkra1n, which is a statically linked binary package with only CLI/TUI support (now merged into checkra1n-multiarch)
  • checkra1n-ubuntu-bin, which is a dynamically linked binary package with both CLI/TUI and GUI support
  • checkra1n-multiarch, which is the same as checkra1n but with support for other architectures than x86_64 (now renamed to checkra1n-cli)

I propose the following changes:

  • Rename checkra1n-ubuntu-bin to either checkra1n or checkra1n-gui. I prefer checkra1n since this is the fully featured version and probably what most people want, but we could have a -gui suffix if we need to signify that it isn't what's recommended by upstream for non-debian based distros (I personally don't care about upstream recommendations though). I dropped the -bin suffix since the source code isn't available yet, this should be added once it is available later this year.
  • Rename checkra1n-multiarch to checkra1n-cli. We still need a CLI package for Arch Linux ARM/32 users and people who don't want to pull in extra dependencies for the GUI, but I think it should have a -cli suffix since it's missing the GUI features. (done)
  • Merge the current checkra1n package into the new checkra1n-cli (the current checkra1n-multiarch). We don't need two CLI packages, so replace the x86_64-only one with the multiarch one. (done)

Any input is appreciated!

Just installed checkra1n from your package Went without a hitch but it would be nice to have the binary suid that way any user can run it

Huh, I'm using yay as my helper too.

Try doing a cleanBuild?

rhysperry111 commented on 2020-02-05 17:19

Manually downloaded it and the sha256sum was same as written in PKGBUILD. I still get the error if I do it through my AUR helper (yay) though

pretzelca commented on 2020-02-05 16:19

rhysperry111: I'm not getting that error when I install checkra1n, and they haven't changed the hash or file.

Can you download the file manually, run sha256sums on it, and check if its equal to the one listed on the checkra1n site?

==> ERROR: One or more files did not pass the validity check! Error downloading sources: checkra1n

Once they update the hashes, I'll go ahead and replace the download link.

They made last-minute bug fixes and they'll be updating the site soon.

(EDIT: They just updated the hashes on the site so the source url has now been updated) (EDIT 2: They seem to be keeping the "hash in url" style, changed it to the correct source url again)
