The de-chunking issue can be fixed by changing the dd command from dd ... ibs="$len" count=1 to dd ... ibs=1 count="$len" It shouldn't be necessary to read 1 byte $len times rather than $len bytes once but I don't yet know the exact issue. Looking at the output from strace; dd is reading the chunked file from the pipe, requests the correct number of bytes, receives fewer bytes than were written to the pipe by cat, and receives no error from the read syscall. Strange.

The PKGBUILD is de-chunking the egg incorrectly -- it cuts off part of the silex.scm file, causing a compiler error, and does not unpack the silex.meta file at the end of the .chunked file.

Something else is also wrong -- chicken-install still refuses to build it, even with a .meta file added.

This package does not build, apparently because the upstream egg does not include a silex.meta file.
