This package needs git as a makedepend. Otherwise it will not build in a clean chroot.

because there is also a -git package of clerk.

Why? https://www.archlinux.org/pacman/PKGBUILD.5.html An array of “virtual provisions” this package provides. This allows a package to provide dependencies other than its own package name. For example, the dcron package can provide cron, which allows packages to depend on cron rather than dcron OR fcron.
