I have managed to find the source of the package. I have built and tested this source to make sure it actually works, and it has the same MD5 sum as in the PKGBUILD. What you have to do, is download the tarball, extract it, then open the PKGBUILD and change the source line to:
source=(ftp://ftp.uwsg.indiana.edu/linux/gentoo/distfiles/cowbell-0.2.7.1.tar.gz)
Then the package should build correctly.

Looks like more-cowbell.org is down. I have a prebuilt binary for x86_64 that I found in /var/cache/pacman/pkg/ on an old machine, I have made it avaliable at http://mfserver.comze.com/cowbell-0.2.7.1-6-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz. Sorry for the suspicious free domain name everyone, I can't access my dedicated server at work because they block FTP traffic. You can install cowbell (x86_64 only) by typing:
pacman -U http://mfserver.comze.com/cowbell-0.2.7.1-6-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
Remember that prebuilt binaries from an untrusted source are dangerous! If you do not trust me, do not install!
