Thanks for your comments! Wow, not sure why I chose license directory. The build is deterministic but I'll be disowning this package momentarily because I've started embedding it into Electrum-VTC to run on its own.

The PoS dat file should be in a less confusing location such as /opt/electrum-vtc rather than in the license directory. Additionally, the homedir stuff is run as root and is not suitable for the package() function. That should happen in a script (also placed in /opt/electrum-vtc) and be included as part of a wrapper startup script, or something similar. The user running the installer may not want to use the root homedir, and they also may not be the only user who runs the software. Lastly, are you sure the gcc build is deterministic and will produce the same sha every time?
