My makepkg.conf DLAGENTS for https is: 'https::/usr/bin/curl -gqb "" -fLC - --retry 3 --retry-delay 3 -o %o %u'. What's causing this issue is probably your download agent not following http redirection.

@patlefort: I only get a HTML file back.

Both with user-agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:28.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/28.0 or empty user agent string. What user-agent are you using for your downloader?

Fails to verify checksum:
