My printer is broken (and got replaced). So I can't test anymore.

lib32-popt isn't in the official repos. It is in AUR.

On my machine x64, there is a problem with dependecies:

==> Making package: cupsdriver-mp640 3.20-10 (Sun Nov 9 12:53:57 CET 2014)
==> Checking runtime dependencies...
==> Installing missing dependencies...
[sudo] password for user:
error: target not found: lib32-popt

finally!
with cups 1.6.2 printing works again.

I got the printer working on my laptop over the network using the sharing option on cups, the printer is connected in usb to a computer which is running 24/7 so it's not really a problem that cups doesn't detect the printer on the network... The duplex mod that works for me is the long side stapling.
Again, thank you very much,
It's sad that gutenprint list the printer and doesn't really work even if it detect it...

ah and with the version 7 you can (but it's not tested) use the gui by uncommenting the gtk2 stuff

just a small fix for missing deps (on 32 bit architectures).

it took me a night. And for me there is an another weird problem.
The network printer isn't detected (strange, some missing dependencies?).
And duplex: there two duplex mode you took the false one. I think the right one is short side stapling

That's working. thanks a lot, that's far better than the turboprint solution. But the duplex printing is working upside down... weird... Canon drivers are very good !!!!
