Hi @dreieck,

Dell printers are using Samsung hardware under the hood. That's why there is an overlap. There is a good chance, you can operate your Dell printer with the Samsung package, though perhaps needing some PPDs from this package.

One could probably also fix the packages to operate in parallel, but this might need some work.

Ahoj,

  • Why does dell-unified-driver-printer need to conflict with samsung-unified-driver-printer, not allowing to have both drivers installed in parallel?
  • Why does dell-unified-driver-scanner provide samsung-specific files (and xerox-specific files) and thus needs to conflict with samsung-unified-driver-scanner, not allowing to have both drivers installed in parallel?

Hi tholinka,

I needed the following changes to make the scanner package work for me:

  • Install the libmfp.so - else the libsane-smfp won't load
  • Additionally install the bundled version of libnetsnmp; yet another dep of libmfp.so
  • Fix a typo (smpf -> smfp) writing the sane config
