@ShayBox look at the version before you flag it out of date.

@WoefulDerelict You seem to be mistaken the postinst.sh points to $DIR/.config/discordcanary which is still in use.

I only added the postinst.sh to the install hooks last update to try and combat the discord being stuck updating problem.

Personally I would prefer it to not kill my running discord process but this file comes straight from upstream and I'm not going to bother editing it every time it changes.

WoefulDerelict commented on 2018-05-09 16:36

It would appear that postinst.sh has some non-functional statements sitting at the end of the file:

# This is probably just paranoia, but some people claim that clearing out
# cache and/or the sock file fixes bugs for them, so here we go
for DIR in /home/* ; do
  rm -rf "$DIR/.config/discordstable/Cache"
  rm -rf "$DIR/.config/discordstable/GPUCache"
done
rm -f "$OS_TMPDIR/discordstable.sock"

Currently the release version of discord uses ~/home/%u/.config/discord and canary uses ~/home/%u/.config/discordcanary. This renders these statements non-functional and superfluous. The earlier statements appear to serve very little functional purpose in this context as I'm not sure how helpful users will find killing any currently running discord processes after install. This may have been a worthwhile step to avoid deleting files in use by a running process; however, given that there is nothing at those locations and discord doesn't presently use them nothing significant is actually happening. It may be perfectly acceptable or even preferable not to run this script at all. If it is going to be run it should be modified and the locations corrected so the intended work is actually being carried out.

EDIT: It appears I was looking at a dirty src directory with some cruft from 0.0.48 where the script was rather different and did indeed point to $DIR/.config/discordstable/. This appears to be correctly configured in 0.0.49
