looks like that context menu item is now provided by kompare itself:

/usr/share/kservices5/ServiceMenus/kompare.desktop is owned by kompare 20.08.1-1

So I recommend:

  • either uninstall kompare or disable the Compare Files service in dolphin settings
  • either use the toolbar button or the appmenu item (via menu or plasma-hud or krunner-appmenu)

If a user-made meld service menu works well these days, please post a comment here to help others find it. I haven't tested the ones out there. The kompare-provided one looks easy enough to modify/fork, but you may want to replace it with two separate services — one for comparing 2 files and one for comparing 3 (see ).

Note, while I figure out the fix: The toolbar button as well as the app menu item (Tools>Compare Files) still work and open meld, but the context menu item is using kompare until I push an updated patch.

but with the kompare installed, the option appears. unfortunately it still opens on it and not on meld

this option "Compare" is from a "Service" that I installed through dolphin itself.

Yes, I did that. I selected two files and looked in the options menu, but I did not find the option for meld.

Btw, I'm using the kde-unstable repository. Maybe that's it.

Where are you looking for it to be displayed? If you select two or three files, you can:

  • right click: EDIT: no, not this one

  • use the "Compare Files" toolbar button, if you have it on your toolbar

  • choose "Compare Files" from the Tools menu

  • use a HUD to type and match "Compare Files"

I also think it was a problem with network error, now it's working. But I couldn't use the meld in the dolphin. No option is displayed, even with it installed. I installed the kompare to do a test and it is displayed.
