Its perl-configure does not honor makepkg.conf flags (CXXFLAGS etc).

# this works but is a little hackish because configure wants arguments seperated with ":" and does extra work with the libs
./configure --extra-flags="${CXXFLAGS// /:}:${CPPFLAGS// /:}" --extra-libs="dl $LDFLAGS" --prefix=/usr --man-prefix=/usr/share/man

This version, 1.1.1, does not build with libpng 1.5.8, which is now the Arch default.

Fixed. Thx.

For prevent a compile error about libdl, on my system, i have to modify PKGBUILD build() function adding to ./configure line:

./configure --prefix=/usr --man-prefix=/usr/share/man

the last statement (--extra-libs=dl) to update LDFLAGS of the Makefile with -ldl:

./configure --prefix=/usr --man-prefix=/usr/share/man --extra-libs=dl

In this way all goes fine.

The AUR guidelines talks about binary *packages* which is different.

tzervo, You can keep the .png here.

The PKGBUILD was just recently moved from extra, so it is in fact a PKGBUILD used and maintained for some time by a TU. I checked the png, it is nothing more than a cropped image from the chess sets included in the package, to support a .desktop entry in xdg menus. So, I don't see anything wrong there. Feel free to contact me again if I miss something.

Your tarball has some issues. AUR guidelines suggest to not include binaries. Take for example:
Other TUs seems to think an icon or two is okay, but maybe you should ask upstream to include it. Please fix this.
