Manual intervention required updating eclipse from * -> 2:4.17-3: remove eclipse-common; the package is no longer needed and will conflict.

As a user of eclipse-cpp I advise you to use the eclipse-installer from the eclipse site. Undoubdetly, it will install other eclipse packages as smoothly as the cpp package under Archlinux.

So how do we update this? Does someone has an updated PKGBUILD? Thanks you

coderkun commented on 2021-04-04 08:41

Any chance to update this package to the new version of Eclipse?

hadogenes commented on 2021-03-01 11:56

for AUR_BUILD=false there should be pkgname=(eclipse-common ${pkgname[@]}) not pkgname+=(eclipse-common)

The package from [community] was a binary package, the AUR contains PKGBUILDS. Stop using shitty AUR helpers and then complaining about it.

It might be a split package, but I don't recall this behavior of downloading 5x Eclipse when this package was in [Community].

What changed and can it be undone?

coderkun commented on 2021-02-12 15:42

Guys, this is a split package. Please stop complaning about it …

Why is this package called 'eclipse-java' when it also downloads the Rust, PHP, JEE, Javascript and CPP versions of Eclipse? You can't even install two versions of Eclipse and the same time, what is the point of this?
This should download Eclipse Java and nothing else.

I have only the "eclipse-javascript" installed, but when I update my packages, all those packages downloaded: 359M - eclipse-cpp-2020-12-R-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz 322M - eclipse-java-2020-12-R-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz 501M - eclipse-jee-2020-12-R-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz 247M - eclipse-php-2020-12-R-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz 267M - eclipse-rust-2020-12-R-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz How to avoid this? I already put them on the "IgnorePkg" but still downloading this unnecessary 2GB packages and I want to update just the 'eclipse-javascript'. Thanks.

I agree with @mikaelblomkvists, it is ridicolous to dowload multiple versions. The yay cahe uses 6.9 GB only for eclipse. And on top of that you cannot even install two versions.
