FYI: activation does not work

It fails with the following for me on 9.0.5.0:

ESET Endpoint Antivirus Error: : Activation was not successful. (System information is temporarily unavailable (0x2))

ras: I expend some time and I cannot figure out where is decided what algorithm uses DKMS. I saw your rule but I cannot find anything better right now. I just can share my experience with Manjaro.

pando855: on Arch Linux since the 5.13 kernel zstd is used for compressing kernel modules. xz was used before that. I am happy to provide a solution for this in the package if there is a better algorithm to decide which decompressor to use.

Currently dkms_postint uses this logic to decide: if [ ${kernel_ver[0]} -gt 5 ] || [ ${kernel_ver[0]} -eq 5 -a ${kernel_ver[1]} -ge 13 ]

I'm running 5.15.38-1-MANJARO and I had to extract kernel module from xz manually because the scripts try to do it with zstd. After doing it manually all is fixed.

Thank you for the package.

Has anyone figured out a way to activate ESET?

from 9.0.5.0 the kernel module compiles with 5.16+ kernels

ras commented on 2022-01-26 10:51 (UTC)

the kernel module does not compile with 5.16+ kernels

@cmuench: yea, too bad... same might happen one day for kaspersky (kesl) I guess - if there will be an issue I can't solve. No support for Arch but at least it works for me atm.. besides that no dkms, just fanotify which I prefer anyways

@tfi ESET is officially not answering questions according to not supported systems. Arch Linux is not supported. I already tried to solve that via support and guess that there are other people here with the same experience.
