The openssl patch is clearly wrong. It replaces a compile failure with writing to an uninitialized memory address (read: crash or potential vulnerability). Look at https://github.com/ekg2/ekg2/commit/f05815798e8a34a47e00ecfb7ec6f0c19b330eae for a proper fix.

Also, next time it would really be preferable to submit your patches upstream. If you have good patches, it will really help us. if you have bad patches, you have some chance we'd tell you before you expose your users to another variation of Debian's OpenSSL epic fail.

I've fixed my repo and it's building fine... I've also submitted a pull request, we'll see if upstream picks it up, in the meantime, I've created a 'tag' on my fork to facilitate a successful compiling on the latest code.

It will fail to compile on all versions of this package. In the end, I managed to do it by deactivating some plugins: ./configure --without-gtk --without-gpg --without-readline --without-gg --without-gif (I don't actually think that gtk had any problem, I just didn't want to compile any compatibility with it; so you can try to omit this. If it fails, you can try disabling it too)

Moved from [community] to AUR in connection with the 2013 Midyear Cleanup.
