Updated to 2.3.28: the Arch support has been moved upstream in Gentoo portage and the package is now much leaner.

@Trilby fair point, this has been corrected

Trilby commented on 2018-03-09 23:34

Note that the AUR is not for hosting code. The source code should be placed elsewhere.

Please move the script to github or a filesharing site.

@Ataraxy: I've updated the URL, thanks! Not sure what you mean about the 404 error, it works fine for me:

$ git clone
Cloning into 'etc-update'...

remote: Compressing objects: 100% (6/6), done.
remote: Total 7 (delta 1), reused 7 (delta 1)
Unpacking objects: 100% (7/7), done.

git clone URL is 404.

PKGBUILD url= should be

Didn't see this anywhere, so thought I'd mention it: you need to have the EDITOR variable set to make this work.

Malvineous commented on 2013-09-19 09:48

@Trigger: Done, now it will search /usr/share/config also.

Thanks for this package. Comming from gentoo it makes updates really comfortable.
Could you make it find /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc.pacnew, too?

Malvineous commented on 2013-09-07 23:05

Updated to find *.pacnew under /usr/lib also

@luolimao: Done, thanks.

luolimao commented on 2012-10-05 19:45

Can you change arch=('i686' 'x86_64') to arch=('any') so that users of other architectures can use it? Especially since it's just a bash script anyway.

@jpkotta: Thanks, updated.

jpkotta commented on 2012-10-03 23:23

No longer applies the patch. patch does not modify symlinks by default, and in src/, everything is a symlink to a file in parent dir. Adding --follow-symlinks in the patch command fixes it.

Thanks, this is the best tool for update settings!

Thanks, it works great :)

Malvineous commented on 2012-02-10 11:16

Meh, let's just do away with getting the copy direct from Gentoo. Code is now included in the package.

@Barthalion: Thanks for letting me know it broke.

Oh sorry, made my last-minute changes to the wrong file :-$ Should work properly now.

# etc-update
ERROR: Need write access to /home/adam/incoming/t/etc

Who's adam?

Well I think this script needs more work before going into package-published state.

conan commented on 2012-01-29 04:34

The script doesn't have execute permissions. Please add them.
