Info from expressvpn's site ...

wget https://www.expressvpn.com/expressvpn_release_public_key_0xAFF2A1415F6A3A38.asc

gpg --import expressvpn_release_public_key_0xAFF2A1415F6A3A38.asc

All installed fine; thank you very much for maintaining.

Looks like update notifications are working for the linux client now, but unfortunately the current version (2.3.2) thinks it's an older version (2.3.1 -- check expressvpn --version), so the update alert people get when they run expressvpn status may be a false positive.

Please check what version is reported at https://www.expressvpn.com/latest (or https://www.expressvpn.com/support/troubleshooting/china-status/#linux as this sometimes gets updates listed sooner) before flagging the package as out-of-date.

Please note that, from v2.0.0, ExpressVPN will be providing signed Arch packages on their website (alongside the deb and rpm packages). I'll be continuing to update this package, but for those that find using the AUR cumbersome or just don't want to wait, please be aware of this option.

EDIT: packages were delayed for testing, but seem to be live as of 2019-01-23.

ive tried installing both package 1 and 2 and this still comes up ==> Validating source files with sha512sums... license-20200224.html ... FAILED ==> ERROR: One or more files did not pass the validity check! Error downloading sources: expressvpn

@DilesMavis: 2.4.3.100 is listed on the Chinese troubleshooting page: https://www.expressvpn.com/support/troubleshooting/china-status/#linux

Usually when this sort of disconnect between advertised versions happens it's because there are some minor tweaks that need to be made to the client for users connecting from China, but other users can use either version without issue. They can upgrade, or they can stick with the version listed at https://www.expressvpn.com/latest (currently 2.4.2).

I'll always strive to keep this package pointing to the latest version available, but feel free to edit the PKGBUILD to target the other version if you want it. Just edit the pkgver, run updpkgsums, then makepkg as normal.

The version on the official website is 2.4.2 but AUR version is 2.4.3 Why is that ? it seems there was a mistype or error while naming versions. Edit: so i uninstalled this and installed the one from offical website. then i couldnt start service. i uninstalled that poop and installed from AUR again and couldnt proceed install because of leftover at /usr/.... deleted that. Instaleld finally from AUR and everything is working fine now.

wasted 20 mins trying to be way too clever. the problem of being a windows user. lmao.

btw thanks for this package WorMzy !

I know that WormMzy, no worries. I'm not expecting any kind of support here, just providing data point from within China.

Looks like my data was not accurate though, i've edited my comment.

@GloW, unfortunately I am not affiliated with expressvpn, so telling me is unlikely to help with that problem. Thanks for letting me know that 2.4.1 is out though, I'll try to get this package updated in the next couple of hours.

You're best off contacting expressvpn support (either via Web chat https://www.expressvpn.com/support/troubleshooting/china-status/#open-chat or email support@expressvpn.com ) and letting them know about the problem.

@WorMzy : I've not been able to connect from china using expressvpn on any device any version today.

Edited : user error. Will test more when i can.

I've received clarification that the 2.4.0 update was pulled due to the problems with it in China. If you're not affected by that, then there's no need to downgrade. A new version will hopefully be released shortly to bring everyone up to a 2.4.x release.

WorMzy commented on 2020-01-22 08:53 (UTC)

version 2.4.0 is not available anywhere on their side except for the listed source. Did they pushed an update before canceling it

Possibly, I'll have a look and see what I can find. In the meantime Chinese users can use the older PKGBUILD to build 2.3.4 of this package if they want: https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/tree/PKGBUILD?h=expressvpn&id=c332b2c486b4
