why does this package has the gtk2 dependency, but the firefox-esr package (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/firefox-esr/) does not have it?

can I install this alongside firefox (official repo)? no conflict?

You can download firefox-esr binary from mozilla ftp
For "installation" you need only 'firefox.desktop' file and 'firefox.svg' icon. It's more easier to copy-past a couple of files and make symlink to firefox binary, instead of making PKBUILD file :)
