@drevilt

You could just change

source=("https://mozilla.github.io/shumway/extension/firefox/shumway.xpi" )

to

source=("${pkgname}-${pkgver}.xpi::https://mozilla.github.io/shumway/extension/firefox/shumway.xpi" )

and all would be fine.

Then at least we aren't forced to remove the *.xpi file frome makepkg's source dir on every update.

EDIT: Or just increment it.

@drevilt My bad with the version, I did not notice. But I do not receive updates because this package is not being updated with each release. I use pacaur, I do not update packages myself unless it is necessary.

If I was you, I would make a simple script which would be executed daily by cron and which would even re-upload the package for me. This would make people like me happier.

have you even looked at the PKGBUILD ? This is exactly what it does since a long time. you dont receive updates because makepkg thinks it has already downloaded the file shumway.xpi and does not download it again. with a versioned url this would not happen.

what you can do is to delete the file shumway.xpi and have makepkg download it again each time you want to update. The ( already implemented ) pkgver function will set the version for you.

@drevilt I understand you, but this is not a good approach. That is the reason I have never received an update for this package.
Try at least implementing pkgver() and print there the first line of 'shumway.xpi/content/version.txt'. It should set the correct version in PKGBUILD.

The reason for skipping the checksum is noted further down in the comments, but also in the PKGBUILD. The main Problem is that mozilla does not tag their releases and we get only a single url without a version number to download from. If the sha1sum behind the url changes and we utilize the hashcheck in the PKGBUILD the package could break at any moment.

I have changed the downloadlink from http to https. That should adress your concern about corrupted files.

Until we find a way to download the xpi via a versioned url, I think the best way to go is to skip the hash check.

Current version: 0.10.316
sha1sum: df5255fd82e6b85158dcd4e29d1e7d66c87abade

DO NOT SKIP SHA1SUM ! When sha1 changes, it means a new version was released. You should update checksum and version number. If you do not do so, users risk receiving no updates or installing corrupted files. Please, fix this issue.

as noted somewhere here in the comments, the problem is that they use the same filename and replace it with the current version . this changes the checksum frequently.

i have skipped the hashsum check because a lot of people seem to have problems because of this.
