Figuring out these issues needs debugging skills and reading the console log and searching on the Arch package file database and also looking on AUR to see if the missing tools mentioned only in the console log are available somewhere.

Definitely not how a GUI application should work by default.

I think that actually these should be mandatory dependencies, since they are needed by basic functionalities offered through the main menu of the GUI.

Regarding gv, it is needed along with abctab2ps (the latter I forgot to mention in my OP), for when I open 'Preview Tune' from the 'Abc' menu.

abctab2ps creates a rendered sheet music PS file, and gv shows it in a new preview window.

probably should be an optional dependency, similar to how tk is optdep of git

When I click on 'Listen Tune' from 'Abc' menu, the console log shows error:

sh: line 1: timidity: command not found

And nothing happens, no playback window occurs.

Edit: Then, if I go on to install timidity++ and try that again, the following error is shown in console:

libXaw3d.so.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Interface `a' is not compiled in.
Try timidity -h for help

And again, no playback window occurs.

Edit 2: only by installing xaw3d does the playback GUI window gets shown.

@MarsSeed I don't have any of those packages installed on my system, so IMHO flabc is not dependent of those.

This seems to need additional dependencies to work. E.g.:

As of today I became the new maintainer on AUR for this package by adoption.

From https://www.lautengesellschaft.de/cdmm/#DownloadLinux: ... you can get the source code: abctab2ps-1.8.17.tar.gz and flabc-1.2.1.tar.gz...

So, version is 1.2.1

@vpzomtrrfrt: for your convenience I've already calculated the checksum:
