@willemw @kozaki Thanks for your help. exiftool (perl-image-exiftool 12.76) was installed but for some strange reason the library was not seen by the program: the problem seems to exist on BigLinux which is a derivative of Manjaro. If it helps, however, I've fixed it downloading the latest release of ExifTool (12.87 currently) without compiling anything but simply copying some files as described here: tar -xzf Image-ExifTool-12.87.tar.gz ; cd Image-ExifTool-12.87 ; sudo cp -r exiftool lib /usr/local/bin . Now Fotocx works perfectly.

perl-image-exiftool is indeed available in Arch:

$ pacman -Ss exiftool
extra/perl-image-exiftool 12.76-2 [installed]

@papakilo: thanks for reporting, however, I cannot reproduce that problem:

program purpose REQ AVAIL package (debian)
exiftool           metadata         yes   yes     libimage-exiftool-perl

The fotocx package has dependency 'perl-image-exiftool', which is the Arch package name equivalent for that fotocx (debian) dependency name. Is your system up-to-date? Check for any messages when starting fotocx from the command line.

Hi willemw, thanks for your porting to AUR, but I have to inform you that it doesn't work well because there's probably a wrong dependency and I think it's perl-image-exiftool. Starting the program a window listing dependencies shows that exiftool for metadata is REQuested but NOT AVAILable ('outboard program exiftool is not installed' from CLI)

@willemw thank you for the fast reply! Lets hope for an upstream fix.

@spsf64, @sushi2503: I have reported it upstream. It's an error in the upstream Makefile ("MENUDIR = ...").

@sushi2503 same problem here. For some reason the "fotocx.desktop" is now located "/usr/applications/" instead of "/usr/share/applications/". That is why it does not show in the menu. Lets wait for the @willemw try to find a fix for this...

edit: using XFCE here

Since last update > version 24.20 the launch icon disappeared from the system menu and by updating fotocx I got this warnings from pacman :

[2024-04-03T08:32:54+0200] [ALPM] warning: directory permissions differ on /usr/share/fotocx/data/custom_kernel/, filesystem: 750 package: 755 [2024-04-03T08:32:54+0200] [ALPM] warning: directory permissions differ on /usr/share/fotocx/data/custom_scripts/, filesystem: 750 package: 755 [2024-04-03T08:32:54+0200] [ALPM] warning: directory permissions differ on /usr/share/fotocx/data/palettes/, filesystem: 750 package: 755 [2024-04-03T08:32:54+0200] [ALPM] warning: directory permissions differ on /usr/share/fotocx/data/patterns/, filesystem: 750 package: 755

I can still start it from a terminal without any errors nor warnings.

/usr/share/applications/fotocx is missing.

@willemw: Fixed, thanks a lot!

@sushi2503: Thanks. The file permission problem should be fixed soon in the next release.
