I can also create a small package freecalypso-common adding export PATH=$PATH:/opt/freecalypso/bin to /etc/profile.d/freecalypso.sh.

I think in that case this would be a good alternative; and don't forget about the /etc/profile.d/freecalypso.csh.

Maybe, either call the package freecalypso-common and depend on it, or call it freecalypso-path-addition or such and optionally depend on it.

Regarding upstream URL: As far as I understand, it should not so much point to source but to a general website giving the not-knowing user a glimpse about what the software is about. But I am not so much sure about that.

Regards and thanks for maintaining!

Can you install (or symlink) all the executables from /opt/freecalypso/bin/ into /usr/bin/, please?

Installing to /usr/ is definitely not an option, because the project maintainer (Mychaela Falconia) is preferring /opt/freecalypso/ and hard-coding this path to the source code. See https://www.freecalypso.org/hg/freecalypso-tools/file/tip/PACKAGING for more details.

Adding symlinks during the install() is an option, but given the number of binaries this and the other freecalypso packages provide, maintaining a complete up-to-date list of symlinks is going to be a challenge.

The easiest solution would be adding /opt/freecalypso/bin to your $PATH. I can also create a small package freecalypso-common adding export PATH=$PATH:/opt/freecalypso/bin to /etc/profile.d/freecalypso.sh.

Can you change $url to https://www.freecalypso.org, please? That is where information about this software can be found.

The URL you suggested is the general project description and in my opinion does not qualify as the "Upstream URL". There seems to be no dedicated page for freecalypso-tools. I only found https://www.freecalypso.org/software.html, which briefly mentions freecalypso-tools (among with many other projects). So I think it's better to keep the $url pointing to the actual project repository, where you can find more relevant info like the project description (https://www.freecalypso.org/hg/freecalypso-tools/file/tip/README) and documentation (https://www.freecalypso.org/hg/freecalypso-tools/file/tip/doc).
