seems ftp.gimp.org is unavailable now switch the address to https://download.gimp.org/pub/gimp/fonts/freefonts-0.10.tar.gz and it works

mountpeaks, I received very similar error messages as well. The fonts listed for me were different than the ones in your list though, which I find odd.
