I retrieved freeplane via
git clone
just a few minutes ago

sorry for being late :-)
checked with archlinux-java status
Available Java environments:
java-8-openjdk/jre (default)

yaourt -Qs | grep jdk, yaourt -Qs | grep jre
--> only java8 stuff is present

executing makepkg -s
I was asked to choose between 2 providers:
makepkg -s
==> Erstelle Paket: freeplane 1.5.18-1 (Fri Jan 20 22:51:50 CET 2017)
==> Prüfe Laufzeit-Abhängigkeiten...
==> Installiere fehlende Abhängigkeiten...
:: Es stehen 2 Provider für java-environment zur Verfügung:
:: Repositorium extra
1) jdk7-openjdk 2) jdk8-openjdk

Geben Sie eine Zahl ein (Voreinstellung=1): 2

I choosed jdk8-openjdk

makepkg -i...

after installing:
yaourt -Qs | fgrep jdk
extra/jdk8-openjdk 8.u112-1
extra/jre8-openjdk 8.u112-1
extra/jre8-openjdk-headless 8.u112-1
yaourt -Qs | fgrep jre
extra/jre8-openjdk 8.u112-1
extra/jre8-openjdk-headless 8.u112-1

+ freeplane works fine

@schnedan interesting that it's choosing version 7. That could be a bug actually with yaourt. The dependency of the AUR package is `java-environment` which according to wiki [1] should be covered from `jdk8-openjdk`, `jdk7-openjdk` or `jdk`. Try building with `makepkg -s` instead of yaourt. You can also try changing to `java-runtime` in PKGBUILD and see what it will fetch (hopefully only a JRE).

Of course there is a JDK present also... but in my understanding the jdk is a dependency of the JRE, so uninstalling a JRE with -Rs also deletes the JDK if not needed by any other program. So yes, I removed not only the JRE7 but all three: JRE7, JDK7 + freeplane, but reinstalling freeplane brought back JRE7 + JDK7 while JRE8 + JDK8 is installed + selected!

So the base problem is: when XXX8 is installed, why freeplane insists XXX7 needs to be installed also?

@schnedan Do you really have only a JRE installed? The dependencies require actually a java-environment which means a JDK.

But is a JDK necessary at all? For a normal application a JRE should be sufficiently. The Windows version of Freeplane needs only a JRE so far as I know.

Just recognized that I have installed jre7 + jre8,
tried to uninstall jre7 --> but freeplane seems to have an Dependency to jre7 even as it seems jre8 should satisfy the dependency I guess...

So I uninstalled jre7 + freeplane, checked jre8 is set default, reinstalled freeplane.

And here is the problem: in the process started by yaourt -S freeplane
jre7 gets reinstalled as dependency...

so for the moment its ok, but please check if freeplane works with jre8 and remove the dependency to jre7 from the install scripts if possible...
Thanks :-)

Is anyone else having problems typing diacritics like é è, á à ? They are pretty common in french, but I can't make them work. Instead I see a black symbol with a question mark inside. Looks like a font encoding problem. I use KF5 16.08.0-1, and US international w/dead keys keyboard layout. Edit: nevermind, it was a matter of switching from the old jdk7-openjdk to the new jdk8-openjdk with the archlinux-java command :)

New version is out, but I'm currently out traveling and without access to my aur key. I will update early September.

Please remove the .install file as everything done there is already taken care of by pacman hooks.
