Unfortunetly this is the icon provided from upstream [1]

This package is well constructed but the icon on Gnome 3 is small and is thus shown blurred.

Updated to 1.3.12 - sorry for the delay had some issues upstream.

I managed to replicate it, thanks for giving enough informations. I just pushed a fix for that on the `` file. You can re-install if you want. Diff follows:
< cd /usr/share/freeplane
< exec ./
> exec /usr/share/freeplane/ "$@"

When installed, it couldn't run the files when invoked from UI "Open with..". Also, when invoked from command line:
$ freeplane
It just opens freeplane with new map.

It seems that the problem lies in /usr/bin/freeplane, that doesn't forward the cli parameters further to original script.

With following manipulations the issue is gone in my case

sudo rm /usr/bin/freeplane
sudo ln -s /usr/share/freeplane/ /usr/bin/freeplane
