Previously it worked with -Dfrida-core:barebone_backend=disabled in build. The latest one I am building cleanly and I will install after I uninstall python-frida.

@fam007e is the issue fixed? And do you build in a chroot or via fakeroot?

fam007e commented on 2026-09-27 07:06 (UTC)

@RubenKelevra my issue was with clean build.

@fam007e I've pushed an pkgrel update, to improve he resolution for dependencies, which hopefully mitigates the stale dependency your I assume non-clean-build is drawing in.

Lmk if this works for you.

@fam007e this issue is likely caused by not building in a clean chroot. Can you confirm that you did not build in a clean chroot?

@fam007e thanks for the report, I'll look into it.

Build fails on frida-core 0602e5dca4 (17.18.0) with barebone_backend enabled:

subprojects/frida-core/src/barebone/arch-arm/machine.vala:1008: error: The type name `Gum.ThumbWriter' could not be found (same for ArmWriter, lines 1008/1028/1049/1069)

Verified this isn't a bad commit pin: frida-core/frida-gum commits match the official 17.18.0 submodule refs exactly, the pinned vala fork commit matches releng/deps.toml, and Gum.ArmWriter/ThumbWriter are declared unconditionally in frida-gum's vapi at 22e077120358 (vapi/frida-gum-1.0.vapi:2247,2325) — so valac fails to resolve types that are actually present. Possibly a fork-valac parsing issue, not a missing declaration.

Workaround: -Dfrida-core:barebone_backend=disabled in build(). Build and install succeed clean with local/fruity/droidy/socket/compiler backends all intact — barebone is bare-metal/kernel debugging only, unused by normal frida-tools/frida-python/frida-server workflows.

Happy to open this upstream on frida-core if useful.

@fam007e should be fixed now, and the next build (after this update) should also be significantly faster, as the whole v8 build is now moved to frida-v8, which is not as often updated as frida itself. So if not necessary, this can be avoided. :)

@fam007e I didn't catch that this is a blocker for you, otherwise I had put a higher priority on it. Doing a plain chmod isn't ideal, that's why I will use the parameter in the next version - takes a bit since I'm splitting off the V8 dependency, so it doesn't have to be rebuilt on every single update, as its quite ressource intensive to build and this dependency barely updates.

@RubenKelevra I installed succesfully by doing
