Despite providing the same functionality, they come from different sources. If any user prefers this one, they could simply alias it to 'fu'. It's not worth merging them.

Hm ok, so if I understand this correctly those two packages provide the same functionality, but are implemented differently. In that case I would make them provide each other (using the provides line in the PKGBUILD) and let the users decide, which implementation is prefered. I know this won't work for you, but providing a package here means providing it in a way to make it as good as possible for the other users. I also provide packages I use differently, e.g. surf etc.

I also maintain fu-perl, which is lighter and (arguably) faster and I like perl more than python. So, I decided to symlink /usr/bin/fu.pl to /usr/bin/fu, since I have both fu.pl and fu.py in my box.

Why this last line? Why rename the executable from fu to fu.py? Is there another application using /usr/bin/fu ?
