@jghodd
Indeed. The [community] version is built against the mutter package in [extra] which is at version 10.
That should work for the development version as well; I need to update the PKGBUILD when I have time.
For now, you could fix it locally by changing line 17 from this:
libmutter-6.so=0-64
to this:
mutter

mutter-6 is no longer available from the AUR, or anywhere else. at this point should there not be an update to upstream with support for a more recent version of mutter?

@btd1337, @SolarAquarion:
This package builds in a clean chroot as-is.
I see upstream is supporting mutter7 now, but Archlinux isn't providing a package for it (looks like we already moved on to mutter8).
Luckily, the package still builds against mutter6!
I'm not sure if there are any benefits to using mutter7, there's no package for it in a stable repository, and this does build, so I'm going to leave it alone for now.

It needs to update PKGBuild dependencies to build works correctly.

Upstream has not yet moved on to libmutter7.

Yes, I've managed to get Pantheon in its entirety to work thanks to the hard work of people like you, quequotion. Much obliged.

@Erde You are talking about the whole Pantheon platform, which is really best discussed in the forum thread.
As for this package itself (gala-git); I assure you it builds as of this message.

Not withouts alucryd's repo or chaotic aur. Just tried by doing a clean install on actual hardware which I assumed to be Prosto_user's initial issue. At least it does not when trying to build pantheon-session-git with gala-git. Or didn't when I tried recently. Suspected it might be my hardware, but Pantheon works just fine in Elementary OS. Upstream issue I figure. The same "something went wrong" -error. CBA to try in a VM tho. Anyways, since it is most likely an upstream issue no need to mull over it too much here. Just wanted to point out it to others so they can know it is not only them who are getting errors.
HOWEVER, if someone has managed to get it to actually run, I'd appreciate any info on that and what exact packages you used and from where.
