I've adopted the qtads package and fixed the conflict on that end by putting /usr/share/icons/hicolor/*/mimetypes in a split package. It's an awful solution, but I asked on the forums and couldn't find a better one. You can now install qtads and gargoyle on the same system.

I'd held off before, but now that Arch is switching to Plasma 6, that's a great idea. I've done it.

Hi, would you consider updating this package to use Qt6 instead of Qt5?

SpotlightKid commented on 2022-07-19 21:53 (UTC)

This conflicts with package qtads due to both installing /usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/mimetypes/application-x-tads.png.

I've made speech-dispatcher an optional dependency with the help of an upstream patch. I've also fixed the licenses, removed the redundant install script, and adjusted the package to conform to the Arch package guidelines (in particular, it no longer uses /usr/libexec).

This package is now updated to Gargoyle 2022.1. Thank you for all the effort you've put into both developing it and making it easy to package, cspiegel! The current commit is mostly based on the gargoyle-git package, so thank you to dbedrenko for keeping that package building as Gargoyle evolves, too.

I opted to use Qt 5 for now because it's more mature and commonly depended on than 6. I also enabled text-to-speech support, which means this package now depends on speech-dispatcher. I do prefer TTS support as the default, but if it's a problem for anyone, I can make a separate package with it disabled and keep it in sync easily enough!

In the "flag out of date" notes, I mentioned that the UI uses qt5 now instead of gtk2; but in fact it can use 5 or 6, with 5 as the default. Pass -DWITH_QT6=ON to CMake to build against Qt6, if so desired. I test mainly with Qt5 but it should work fine with 6 as well.

@TheCycoONE: Cleaned up PKGBUILD following your advices. Thanks a lot!

Handful of comments:

The -std=c++11 injection we do has not been needed for some time (https://github.com/garglk/garglk/commit/be9ae55dd206f103ec686cb3faaf2d505098547f) and causes numerous warnings when compiling C code.

The SubDirCcFlags replacement is not necessary.

As far as I know sdl2/sdl2_mixer are not used, however sdl_sound and sdl / sdl_mixer 1.2 are.

aarch64 is a valid arch target.
